The Do’s and Don’ts of Damp and Mould

Not sure what to do when you find damp or mould in your home? Unless you are a trained professional, you probably won’t know the best way to treat the problems effectively. But don’t worry, we have some useful advice for you!

Here are our do’s and don’ts of damp and mould.

DO act quickly

When you spot damp or mould in your home, it is absolutely essential to act quickly. If you don’t, not only are you risking damage that would be very costly to fix but you are also putting your health at risk. Breathing problems such as asthma and skin allergies like eczema are just a couple of things that you could face in the future as a result of ignoring the problem.

DON’T try to fix it yourself

Think that you can successfully treat the problem yourself? Although this may seem like the more convenient and cheaper option, it isn’t the best way forward. Trained damp and mould professionals have the knowledge to identify and effectively treat damp and mould. After all, they probably see this on a day-to-day basis! If you want to ensure that these things don’t return in the future, always consult a professional. It will definitely be worth it in the long term.

DO find out the cause

The treatment you need will depend on the type of damp and mould that is present. The causes of these problems could be anything from the structure of the building to excess moisture in the air, aka condensation. If you have taken the advice above and hired a damp and mould specialist, they will be able to easily identify this and will know which treatment to use.
