3 Simple Steps for Treating Damp and Mould

Have you noticed damp and mould in your home or perhaps a building that you have been called out to? The most important thing is that you don’t ignore these problems as they can become extremely costly to fix, as well as being dangerous to your health.

Here are 3 simple steps for treating damp and mould.

In order to effectively treat the problem, you will first need to identify the type of damp and the cause. You will need to carefully assess the area, taking into account all of the symptoms that are present. Condensation causes moisture to form on windows and is often accompanied by damp wallpaper and black mould. Rising damp causes tide marks, peeling wallpaper and salt stains, so you should look out for these when assessing the building. The main sign of penetrating damp is damp spots on walls or ceilings, that get worse when it rains. Knowing what to look out for will help you when it comes to prescribing the right treatment.

Once you have assessed the damp and mould, you can then begin to treat it. There are many different treatments available, from wall membrane and damp proofing courses to eradication kits and paint additives. You can see the full lists of our products here, or alternatively contact us for advice.

Prevention is the most important step as it ensures that you don’t face these problems again in the future. You should try and incorporate ventilation into your daily routine as this will help stop the build-up of moisture, otherwise known as condensation. Opening windows when cooking, showering and doing other steam-producing activities is absolutely essential if you want to prevent damp and mould.
